Praise has been heaped on The Residence by guests and reviewers alike, the last being a report in a supplement to the Sunday Times Travel Magazine called Full English: The 100 finest places to stay in England.
The editor, Katie Bowman said in her introduction to the magazine: The Residence in Bath, easily the most romantic, stylish, cosy, sexy, cool, intimate, relaxed yet grand place I’ve been to in England. I checked out the next day not sure whether to tell everybody I knew, or lie and say I had been decorating all weekend – The Residence only has six rooms after all and I don’t want friends and family clogging up the Guest Book.
We were also featured as the main piece in the section entitled 'rooms for romance' where she wrote: '‘It’s never the people you expect’, laughs general manager, David Woodward. He’s talking about the sex toys in the mini-bars, and which guests get stuck in. But before you roll your eyes at yet another hotel placing handcuffs and blindfolds beside the bed (let’s face it, it’s becoming the modern equivalent of the Gideon Bible) – don’t. These sex toys are no gimmicks: a foot-long-vibrator (the Rabbit model if you please), hot lubricant (for her pleasure) – and the batteries.
But neither is The Residence a sex den. The Bath limestone Georgian townhouse has the feel of a wealthy but bohemian house party. In fact, two of the owners made it their home until two years ago and a third owner – an ex newspaper editor – often relaxes at the hotel looking more like a former rock star and sociable host than hack.
The rooms – there are only six – are romantic but chic. It took a year scouring Bath’s boutiques, antique shops and auctions to complete the look. Each room is different, one with a 1960’s aluminium light piece, the next with a £12,000 mahogany sleigh bed. But the finished product looks effortless. Take a loved one and don’t expect to see much of Bath.'
---------------------------------------------
The Times on May 5th summed us up rather nicely:
"A very sexy 'boutique townhouse' with proper, civilised mealtimes and rather nice food. The rooms are simple but individually designed (choose from the Attic, the Loft, the Penthouse, among others), there are sauna and steam facilities, and the kind of personal service most chain hotels can only dream of."
A few weeks before, on April 15th, The Observer wrote about us: http://travel.guardian.co.uk/article/2007/apr/15/escape.bath.hotels
Earlier this year The Guardian Travel section (17.2.07) listed The Residence as one of just 25 brilliant places to stay in the UK, and one of just 100 in Europe where you should spend a weekend away: http://travel.guardian.co.uk/article/2007/feb/17/uk.best.hotels
We have also been recommended by Marie Claire in their March issue, the same month we were featured in Conde Nast Traveller.
A month earlier we were recommended by Le Figaro and if that wasn't enough sometime Bath resident, actress Jane Seymour recommended us as the place to stay in Bath during an interview with the American More magazine
The Guardian Travel section also reviewed us back in July 2006 just after we opened and you can see what journalist Sally Shalam said about us at:

Below are just a few of the comments we have received and to show we have not been bias in our selection go to Trip Advisor:

C&S Bath (April, 2007)
Just wanted to say what a fabulous experience we had with you, when we played host to our Dutch colleague in the Emperor Suite! He was absolutely blown away by the room and it was just the perfect environment for private creative working! Your team were fantastic – just seemed to pop up at the right moment, and nothing was too much trouble! So would not hesitate to recommend you ( and already have!) to anyone looking to combine work with pleasure!
Cant wait to do it again!
PS . Spencers burger & fries were top!

We stay at a lot of world class hotels and The Residence is certainly one of the best we have ever stayed at. The welcome was amazing - our two small dogs were also made very welcome. The room was of a great size and the fittings, sheets, linens etc were perfect. Every small detail was thought of. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff and they were all extremely helpful and efficient - again some of the best service with a smile we have every received.

Thank you for making our short break so special.
S&H, Brighton (September 2006)
We honestly cannot find fault with you – I know we only spent one night with you – (a birthday present !) and that can only be the only regret that we were not able to sample all the goods on offer !!
We wish you every success in your new venture – certainly a great deal of effort, attention to detail and a true love of what you are trying to achieve is obvious and there is no doubt great success is on the way. We will be able to bask in the glory of being “one of the first”
R & J, Redhill (September 2006)
We had a fantastic couple of nights at The Residence celebrating our anniversary and I was actually quite sad to leave. Thank you to all who made our stay so special and for the excellent service. We really were made to feel at home. Thanks for entertaining us Richard and for the Boules match. The breakfast was simply the best. We loved the steam and sauna rooms too. The Residence is a beautiful place which has been renovated to exceptional standards – a house which I would love to have as my own! We will be back.
L & L, Basildon (September 2006)
We really enjoyed our stay at the Residence and would not hesitate to stay there again and to recommend the accommodation. We felt that the hotel offered something unique in concept and atmosphere; a pity we only stayed for one night and were unable to sample the full range of amenities. Great personal service especially from Richard and the lovely lady who welcomed us last Friday night..nothing was too much for them. Thanks for rescuing our celebration of our 20th wedding anniversary. We hope to come back soon.
Anita and Suzanne, London (August 2006)
It is just great. We would return in a heartbeat
Mark and Jo, Surrey (August 2006)
An overall five out of five. One of the best hotels I have stayed anywhere in the world. IN fact it doesn't really feel like a hotel, more like a visit to the house of a well heeled friend!! We will definitely be back.
Sunil, London (August 2006)
Sorry, I tried to be as constructive as possible but the fact is that our stay was absolute perfection!! I had just proposed to my girlfriend before we came up and it was the perfect romantic get away. All the staff were so helpful. The Residence really does have that perfect mix of the professionalism of a 5* establishment together with the vibe of staying at a good friends home. (something which is quite hard to manage)
We will definitely come back for our anniversary!
I really cant tell you how grateful I am for such a lovely weekend.
Neda, London (July 2006)
We loved our stay at The Residence and look forward to returning soon, as we were so welcomed and well taken care of. We look forward to coming back soon and can't stop telling all our friends about it.

Lowri and Ludo, Cardiff (June 2006)
We had an absolutely fabulous weekend. I worked on a holiday series for 5 years and have stayed in lots of places in the UK and all over the world……I’d be hard pushed to think of somewhere as pleasant as The Residence, offering the standard of personal service that you guys do.
The rooms are spacious and quirky, yet comfortable and inviting. The attention to detail in the rooms makes it a home from home and the way you guys make the effort to remember everyone’s name and greet them accordingly makes it really special.
Even my car, which arrived stressed and steaming like mad (due to over heating) was well looked after and got up back to Cardiff in a better state!!!
Aly and Lloyd Wolverhampton (June 2006)
Just wanted to say a big thank you to you for making our stay in Bath a really fantastic one. The Residence is superb and the whole ambience and concept of being your guests was a truly memorable experience. I will have no hesitations in recommending others sample this treat.
From the first phone call with David, the reservation with Liz, to the restaurant booking with Mark and our stay hosted by yourself, everyone was extremely friendly and refreshingly 'normal' and unregimented. A true home from home feel but in a location that some of us can only aspire to having one day.
Many, many thanks once again and look forward to seeing you again, soon.....
Gail and Steve R. Crawthorne, Berks (May 2006)
Thanks so much for a wonderful stay at The Residence - a superb place to spend our belated wedding night! You really do have a fantastic property made even better by your friendly dispositions and faultless customer service.
We very much look forward to seeing you again and wish the very best of luck for the successful venture that you deserve.
